An Illinois Doctor is being prosecuted by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation under the new Medical Marijuana Act. The Department alleges in part that the doctor (who is an internist) should have done her own glaucoma evaluation before certifying the patient, even though an ophthalmologist had recently done so, and the patient brought in his medical records to who the doctor. This case could have a chilling effect on general practitioners who are approached by patients seeking information about medical marijuana.
